Safety
Meeting new people should feel exciting, never unsafe. Here's how we help you stay in control, on Otter and in person.
Your answers exist to find your person, nothing else. We never sell your data. Nobody sees your answers unless you match, and even then they see only a few of the places you line up, never the whole picture. Delete your account and your answers go with it.
Nobody appears on Otter without passing selfie verification first. Everyone you see proved they're a real person with a live check before becoming visible, and verified members carry a badge on their profile.
You appear only to people you'd fit and who'd fit you: age, distance, dealbreakers, all working in both directions. And some people should never find you here at all, so you can connect your contacts and anyone on that list, an ex, a boss, a relative, will simply never see you on Otter.
No one can message you on Otter unless you've both said yes. If someone still crosses a line, block and report are one tap away at any stage. Blocking is silent and immediate: you stop seeing each other, and they're never told. Every report is reviewed by a person.
Endless likes sound like abundance until you're tired of everyone and sure about no one. It's not just you: in a 2024 Forbes Health survey, 78% of dating app users reported burnout. Otter is built the other way. A handful of introductions a day, each one there for a reason.
